NO GOVERNOR Legatus pro praetore |
Provincia America Austrorientalis (AAe) was one of the original provinces of Nova Roma, comprising the 9 USA states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississipi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. America Austrorientalis had a strong Nova Roman community, which was held together largely thanks to their live events and mailing lists. America Austrorientalis comprosed the citizens who lived all across the Southeastern United States. On the initiative of consul L. Sulla, the senate dissolved Provincia America Austrorientalis on a.d. IX Kal. Nov. ‡ L. Sulla (III) cos. sine collega ‡ MMDCCLXVI a.u.c., and divided it into America Gallica (Arkansas and Louisiana), America Mississippiensis (Mississippi and Alabama), America Transappalachiana (Tennessee, to which Kentucky was added from Provincia Lacus Magni), Carolina (North Carolina and South Carolina) and Georgia Florida (Georgia and Florida). On Non. Oct. ‡ Q. Arrio (II) T. Domitio (III) cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXIII a.u.c., the senate reunited this province under the new name of Provincia America Cismississippiana, minus America Gallica (the states of Louisiana and Arkansas), which became part of Provincia America Transmississippiana. Nova Roma has much to offer to all those interested in the many facets of Ancient Rome. We have many associations known as Sodalitates which are dedicated to studying a wide range of topics, including but not limited to the Roman military, the Latin Language, and various cultural arts. Provinces hold events to promote membership and encourage participation. Nova Roma is diverse enough to accommodate almost any field of interest in Ancient Rome, including the Religio Romana.
