INTRODUCTION

The first North American Conventus has been organized with the invaluable assistance of a small group of very dedicated citizens, especially Gaia Aurelia Alexandra and Lucia Iulia Aquila. Without the local knowledge of Iulia it would have been far more difficult and without the enthusiasm and work of Aurelia what has been achieved would have been equally diminished.

Planning the first Conventus for North America was always going to be a challenge. The European Conventus is well established and provinces bid for the right to host a Conventus well in advance, allowing for fund raising and securing a contribution from the Treasury. With the North American Conventus by contrast less than a year was available to the group and there was no secured funding. It was however considered vital to break out of the planning cycle and present a Conventus for 2009, rather than wait for another year. In following years it is likely that the European model of provinces bidding to host a Conventus will be adopted for North America, and that the presentations will go from strength to strength.

Oh, yes we know Nashville is hot! The good news is they do have air conditioning and they do sell water ;)
