Spelt is a variety of grain related to wheat and is available in most health-food shops.

Owing to a confusion arising in modern times, spelt is often thought to be that variety of grain known to the Romans from the earliest times and called by them "far". It is therefore often used to make those Roman ritual items called spelt cakes and mola salsa. In fact the grain used by the Romans to make these items is what is called in English "emmer".
