An augur of Antiquity was one who served the Republic in an advisory role, assisting magistrates in taking the auspices, and advising the Senate and the magistrates on various aspects of divination, not the least of which was the proper handling of prodigies and portents.

In Nova Roma, the augur has taken on these roles, as well as the duty, at present, of taking the auspices himself before the holding of the Comitia Centuriata or the Comitia Populi Tributa.
