C. Petronius was initially knowns as C. Africanus Secundus Germanicus, he reformed his name to meet classical Roman onomastics standards in P. Ullerio C. Equitio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXIV a.u.c.. He served in the legions as part of the Saving Nova Roma Movement, and was awarded with the status of eques equo publico for his merits by the senate. Petronius ran unsuccessfully for the consulship in Cn. Lentulo T. Domitio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXIX a.u.c., and after that he run for the quaestorship and was elected to serve quaestor in Sex. Lucilio C. Claudio P. Annaeo Q. Catulo tr. mil. cos. pot. ‡ MMDCCLXX a.u.c..
