ANNOUNCEMENT OF LUDI CERIALES 2761 AUC

Salvete omnes.

As part of this year's Ludi Ceriales (April 21th to 27th) a literary contest, a chariot race and an historical quiz shall take place.

CHARIOT RACE.

The first round of the Quarter-finals, which took place on April 21, was won by The Sunburst, driven by Celt Ambicator, entered by Quintus Servilius Priscus for Factio Praesina, while Germanica, driven by Antropophagus and entered by Decimus Arminius Brutus for Factio Russata, ended up in the second place. These two chariots are qualified for the Semi-finals.

The second round of the Quarter-finals, which took place today April 22, was won by Delectus Consulis, driven by Incitator the Syrian and entered by Tiberius Galerius Paulinus for Factio Veneta. Biga Fortuna, driven by Aoife of the Silures and entered by Gneus Equitius Marinus for Factio Albata obtained the second place. Both chariots are qualified for the Semi-finals.

The third round of the Quarter-finals shall take place tomorrow with the following starting grid, and its account will be posted in the late afternoon.

• Celeritas, driven by Amara Aigeus, entered by Titus Arminius Genialis for Factio Russata
• Faolchú Dubh, driven by Celt Barinthus, entered by M. Martianus Lupus for Factio Veneta
• Windchaser III, driven by Emrys of Gaul, entered by Maxima Valeria Messalina also for Factio Veneta
• Necopinatus, driven by Adrastos, entered by Marca Hortensia Maior for Factio Praesina

LITERARY CONTEST

Unfortunately I received no submissions, before the April 21 deadline, for the literary contest. This means that the contest itself will not take place.

HISTORICAL QUIZ

From April 21 onwards, an historical quiz based on famous Latin quotations, entitled Ipse dixit, shall take place on the main Nova Roma mailing list. I will be posting questions relating to a famous phrase in Latin (3 questions for each phrase). The phrases shall come from various periods of ancient Roman history, including the Christian one - which means that at least one quotation from a Gospel shall be included in the quiz. The religious significance of a phrase, if any, shall not interfere with the Religio Romana or with the personal beliefs of any citizens.

All Nova Roman citizens from all Provinciæ may enter the quiz.

The scoring shall be as follows:

• 2 points for each correct answer
• 0 points for each wrong answer
• -1 points for each missing answer (not given)

The quiz shall happen in 6 rounds, each one relating to a phrase and its own set of questions. At the end of the six rounds, the highest-scoring citizen will be the winner and will be rewarded with a new NR coin, as well as a place of honor on the Ludi Ceriales page. If two or more citizens obtain an equal score at the end, a special tie-break round will follow, with individual questions addressed to each top-scoring entrant.
