Publius Valerius Poplicola was one of the founders of the Roman Republic. He served with L. Iunius Brutus having taken over the consulship from L. Tarquinius Collatinus since the early Republican Romans did not want to still be ruled by a Tarquinian. He then ruled with Sp. Lucretius Tricipitinus. He became so popular a leader that he later became consul four times total.

He is revered as the primary and most distinguished ancestor of the Valerii.
