== I am Tiberius Horatius Barbatus. http://www.novaroma.org/civitas/album?id=11311

  I am more than the sum of my experiences. A man of blended heritage, a husband (again), an adopted son, a father (4), a grandfather (13), a soldier, a police officer (retired), a living historian, a lover of music and science fiction, an aspiring writer, a fencer, a target shooter, a horseback rider. Centered, calm and comfortable with my existence   I became a citizen on Kalendis Iuniis MMDCCLIX a.u.c. (1 June 2006). I am 69+ years old, born and raised in the Provincia Lacus Magni (Ohio Regio). I am of the Gens Horatia, of the Tribus Rammensis and Curia Foriensis, of assiduus status, from the plebeian order and a member of the ordo equester.

I have lived and worked in Provincia Nova Britannia as a resident of the Massachusetts Regio. As a citizen and resident of Provincia Nova Britannia, I first had the honor to be Scriba Propraetoris, was then appointed to be Legate Massachusetts Regio, and finally appointed by the Senate to be Legate pro praetore. In these positions, I was present at all activities organized in the province, visiting and analyzing the roman objectives in my area of interests. I have also learned a great deal as the adiutore cornicularium of LEGIO III CYRENAICA, which is a sponsored Legion of Nova Roma.

Achievements in this provincia:  • Helped revive the Yahoo List of NR Nova Britannia as the main source of provincial announcements and information, which had been virtually unused previously. '• Helped create the new Forum of Nova Britannia for more in depth discussions. During my time as the Legatus pro praetore of Nova Britannia, I was also elected Tribunus Plebis and served for a year, dealing with the business of the day, hopefully to the best of my ability. So I have experience in this position.

I have lived and worked in what was then, Provincia Carolina (North Regio), now part of America Cismississippiana.  After I moved to the regio of North Carolina, the Senate appointed me as Legatus pro praetore. During my administration there, I appointed several hard working members of the Cohors praetoria that helped me organize the somewhat quiet provincia. We updated the page on the Nova Roma site, contacted all of the known citizens and designed the banner for the provincia.

I have lived and worked in the regio of South Carolina, in what is now Provincia America Cismississippiana. Soon after I arrived, I offered my services to Praetix M Hortensia Maior Fabiana Faustina. She graciously appointed me as scriba, and I worked diligently to contact the citizens of the provincia and hopefully inspired them to become active again. I was also elected Quaestor during my time in the Province and worked to the betterment of Nova Roma.

I have returned to the provincia of my birth - Lacus Magni - and recently appointed as Scriba. I am proud to once again be working with my friend, mentor and Legatus pro praetore - Cn. Cornelius Lentulus. And since my return to Lacus Magni, I was also appointed Vigil forensis gregalis.

In my “other life”,  I served as a police officer in Ohio for 18 years, and an appointed Constable in Massachusetts for 3 years. After I retired from law enforcement, I managed a small team of Senior Analysts in the Provider Technology Operations Group for a regional health insurance. Now I am fully retired and have the time and energy to devote to my provincia and Nova Roma. In my other interests and organizations, I was instrumental in creating and organizing new groups, which have flourished and prospered in their various historic genres.

As a citizen of Nova Roma, I believe that we need to encourage our citizens to be more active and participate in the further development of Nova Roma. This will make NR more visible to the general public and the outside world at large, which will increase membership. To motivate the citizenry to participate, we need to encourage more face-to-face (virtual too) meetings provincially, as well as larger gatherings (hopefully in the future).

I also believe that we need to strengthen our government - especially the Consuls and the Magistrates’ ability to perform the necessary actions to bring the organization forward. The two consuls should be the leaders of Nova Roma, the senate acting as their consulting body and the tribunes utilizing the power to protect the rights of the citizens, according to the constitution of Nova Roma.
