I cannot ignore my duty to set a good example for my fellow senators. I will do my best to fulfill the duties of this post.

I have never had political ambitions, but now that I find myself in the Senate when I read "...in antiquity it was typical for very senior people such as senators and consulars to serve as custodes..." I cannot ignore my duty to set a good example for my fellow senators. I will do my best to fulfill the duties of this post.
