Not to be confused with: Roman Market Day.
The Roman Days of Nova Roma were the first main annual central conventions of Nova Roma held in Marietta Mansion in Glenn Dale, Maryland, within the frames of the Roman Days festival, organized by our partners, the Legio XX as an festival meeting for American Roman reenactment groups, and it was the major Roman reenactment event in America for a long period. The Nova Roma section of this event can be considered the predecessor of the International Grand Conventus of Nova Roma, albeit it was not yet extended so as to invite all citizens from all provinces.
The first Roman Days of the Legio XX were held one year before the founding of Nova Roma, perhaps even serving as its catalysator. The I Roman Days of Nova Roma convention was held at the II Roman Days festival of the Legio XX, in Fl. Vedio M. Cassio cos. ‡ MMDCCLI a.u.c., and it was presided by the founding consuls of Nova Roma. This event served as one of the most important meeting opportunities for Nova Romans in America, and in the first years, as the most important annual event of Nova Roma. From M. Octavio L. Sulla (II) cos. ‡ MMDCCLV a.u.c. on, the main American event of Nova Roma became the Roman Market Day of Nova Roma, because that event was completely sponsored, hosted and organized by Nova Roma for Nova Romans and for our affiliated groups.
The Roman Days of Nova Roma were held at each Roman Days festival between Fl. Vedio M. Cassio cos. ‡ MMDCCLI a.u.c. and St. Cornelia C. Aemilio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXVII a.u.c. when the festival ceased to be organized.
Legio XX
The Roman Days festival was sponsored, staged and organizered by the Legio XX (Twentieth Legion, Inc.), and the purpose of the festival was to bring together several Roman legions and Roman reenactment groups, in the spirit of Nova Roma.
