A scriba (plural scribae) is an appointed clerk or assistant of a magistrate. A scriba is an apparitor.

The current constitution permits holders of the office of Censor, Praetor, Aedilis Curulis, Aedilis Plebis to appoint scribae.

The Lex Apula de magistro araneario permits holders of the office of magister aranearius to appoint assistants, also sometimes termed scribae, although the term Wikimagister is also in use.
