One of the magistracies of Nova Roma. There are two Custodes.
The custodes take the raw vote tallies compiled by the diribitors and convert them to a tally of tribes and centuries which they then certify to the convening magistrates of elections. In antiquity it was typical for very senior people such as senators and consulars to serve as custodes. Because of their involvement in the elections, custodes can not run for any office for which they would be certifying the election results.
Custos means guard or watcher, hence the saying "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?" or "Who watches the watchers?"
