BIOGRAPHY
In his home country of Sweden, Ap. Curius Rullus has studied sociology as well as peace and development studies at the Linnaeus University. From the University of Jönköping he also took courses in conflict and conflict management together with a course on identity, pluralism and ethics. This led him to work at the Swedish Public Employment Office, where his focus was on helping disabled persons in finding, and keeping, a job. Apart from his work and interest in Roman history, he served as Chief of Section 1 of the 35th Bataillon Personnel office (C S1) for seven years, with rank as 2nd lieutenant. He has now left his engagement in the Swedish National Guard due to health problems. He is an active mountain biker in three disciplines - Cross Country, Enduro and Downhill.
Ap. Curius has always had an interest in history, especially in the form of reenactment and living history. His interest in Rome was in focus from time to time over the years and he had made actual efforts twice to establish a Roman reenactment group, which were unfortunately unsuccessful. Thus his focus changed to the medieval period, especially to the late 15th century.
Curius joined Nova Roma on a.d. III Non. Iun. ‡ M. Pompeio Sex. Lucilio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXVIII a.u.c.. At that time, Provincia Thule was considered nearly defunct. Curius was determined to assemble all the other citizens and to energize the province. The temporary governor, legatus pro praetore Cn. Lentulus appointed him as scriba legati pro praetore, and now he is working on the reorganization of Thule. He was promoted to the position of vice-governor, proquaestor of Thule, on a.d. V Kal. Dec. ‡ Q. Arrio (III) A. Tullia cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXIV a.u.c..
In M. Pompeio Sex. Lucilio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXVIII a.u.c. he was asked by a friend to join a newly started Swedish Roman reenactment group, which is actually a part of the Denmark based group of Legio VI Victrix, Cohors II Cimbria, and was about to join but had to leave that idea as he had too many things going on in his life at that moment. In the year of Q. Arrio (II) T. Domitio (III) cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXIII a.u.c., Ap. Curius he was contacted again and responded that he would join after leaving his other engagements in a good way. He is now a decanus and a member of the board within the Swedish group Centuria Suionum from the fall of Q. Arrio (II) T. Domitio (III) cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXIII a.u.c.. See links to the two groups below:

When Ap. Curius became of member of the Centuria Suionum of the Cohors II Cimbria, he decided to activate himself within Nova Roma again, he paid his taxes and contributed extra donations to the treasury. He contacted Cn. Cornelius Lentulus if he needed any help. After some discussions, he was offered the role of scriba censoris to censor A. Tullia Scholastica, and soon he was also offered the provincial scriba position in Thule as scriba legati pro praetore Thules Cn. Lentuli. His first duties were to send out over 300 "Confirmation of Application" e-mails and to administrate the replies and to suggest possible name corrections for final approval. The second stage was to administrate about 50% of all replies of the census calls. All in all, he managed about 500 applicants and members. He was also appointed as one of two diribitors for the annual election by consul Q. Arrius Nauta.
In May C. Cethego Q. Arrio (IV) cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXVI a.u.c. Curius left the Swedish Roman group, and he is now, together with his daughter Curia Rulla, freelancing as Roman reenactor with focus on the ”Officium”, especially as beneficiarius consularis and one of the speculatores and exploratores. Ap. Curius Rullus aims to join the newly founded International Nova Roman legion of Legio XX Valeria Victrix!
For his several merits to Nova Roma, Ap. Curius was awarded with the highest distinction and was elevated to the knighthood during the census of Sex. Lucilio (II) A. Tullia (II) cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXV a.u.c.. Besides this honor, he also received the highest possible magistrate-given honor, the Censorial Award of Nova Roma at the same time. For his contributions to the reactivation of Provincia Thule, Curius received the Thulean Governor's Award.
