*Just found: the issue of the Nova Roma ''Eagle'' (2000, No. IV) in which D Iunius Palladius (editor at the time) and L Cornelius Sulla (The Censor) give their (somewhat biased) descriptions of the incident. Are back issues of the ''Eagle'' available on the site? If not, shall I read this one into the record, as they say in Congress? -- [[User:Aldus Marius Peregrinus|Marius Peregrinus]] 22:27, 14 August 2007 (CEST) | *Just found: the issue of the Nova Roma ''Eagle'' (2000, No. IV) in which D Iunius Palladius (editor at the time) and L Cornelius Sulla (The Censor) give their (somewhat biased) descriptions of the incident. Salve Corde! I think you have this page on "watch" status by default. That means you'll get a notice if I save anything here. - Template:M. Lucretius Agricola

I see...
So this is the discussion area attached to my account, and when someone says something here it tells me about it next time I log in. Clever. And my account page is completely separate from my biography?
- yes. this is your user account. There is also an article about you in the general namespace -Template:M. Lucretius Agricola
user pages
Each of us has up to three pages with different purposes.
User:Aulus Apollonius Cordus is an automatic feature of the wiki software, associated with your username. Whenever your username appears in edit historys, signature, and such, it links to this. This is a personal space for you to describe yourself and your wikiprojects, solicit comments, test things, etc. If we adopt wikipedia-like policies, which I recommend, then this is a more personal area where NPOV is not enforced - but it's not a free web hosting service; it should be kept brief and mostly related to your wiki work.
User_talk:Aulus Apollonius Cordus is the discussion page associated with the above. Any messages left here will be automatically mailed to you. Traditionally it's used to discuss edits done by a person - thanking them for exceptional work or berating them for exceptionally bad work.
Aulus Apollonius Cordus (Nova Roma) is an article in the main namespace, and is treated like any other article in the main namespace - NPOV is enforced, and anyone can work on it. I think anyone who has held elected office or been chief of a sodalitas should qualify for an article in the main namespace.
On wikipedia it's considered bad form to edit your own biography (for those very few people who are important enough to rate one); here I think we can be less strict about it, but if conflicts arise the subject of the bio could be blocked from editing it.
When you sign something using four tildes (~~~~) it automatically links to your User: page. You can customize your signature in the Special:Preferences to do things like adding a link to your talk page as well. Marcus Octavius Germanicus(t) 12:41, 27 March 2006 (CST)
Thanks
Okay-dokey, thanks for the explanation. I already wrote my own biography, as you can see, but from now on I'll leave it alove and see what other people have to say. ;)
WikiMagister
You've been nominated to be a WikiMagister (administrator level), giving you the power to protect or unprotect pages, delete pages, and edit protected pages. If you accept you'll be named a webmaster's scribe; let us know whether you want the appointment. Marcus Octavius Germanicus(t) 22:05, 2 April 2006 (CDT)
where?
There are some special pages that can be helpful in finding things:
- Special:Categories - all categories
- Special:Lonelypages - pages not linked to; we should work to reduce these.
- Special:Uncategorizedpages - uncategorized pages; we should work to reduce these.
Eventually, we should have some sort of hierarchical site map, so there's an easy way to get to everything. -- Marcus Octavius Germanicus(t) 07:39, 19 April 2006 (CDT)
- Some of those are misleding unless used carefully. For example, some "Lonely" pages are in categories. For the reading lists that will probably be enough. They MAY become linked to directly with time, but as long as they are in categories they should not be made a linking priority. Some time ago I put the categories into hierarchies. At that time the only uncategorized category was the top one. I'll look at that again when I have a bit of time. M. Lucretius Agricola 07:50, 19 April 2006 (CDT)

I fixed one relatio link in Senate procedures, see Talk:Senate procedures. Marcus Octavius Gracchus(t) 20:22, 24 October 2006 (CDT)
Article on Fimbria incident
How'm I doing on it so far...? >({(:-) -- Marius Peregrinus 23:40, 4 August 2007 (CEST)
Sources?
I'm asking Lucretius Agricola this too: I've located my printed records. Most of the material, I believe, is public domain (leges, Forum posts, List messages and such). However, some of it consists of private e-mails and chatroom transcripts. What is the policy (do we have one?) on the use of such material as primary sources? If I sent the message, may I use it? If I was the recipient, would I need to obtain the sender's permission? What about partial quotes, as are usually included in a reply?
I do have some interesting texts on other matters: an early Album Civium listing the *tresfamiliae; the original Interregnum notice and some associated correspondence; a proposed Statement of Religious Tolerance. There'll be very much more once I retrieve my NR mail from my ancient laptop. -- Marius Peregrinus 10:26, 13 August 2007 (CEST)

I've just "read into the record" the entirety of Nova Roma Eagle, issue IV, 2000, plus a relevant excerpt from issue III, and notes on that year's Eagles in general.
More fun: a page just for the "chatroom precedent" cited by all subsequent censores as justification for denying Marius' name-change request, with quotes from the appropriate Eagles.
I'm working on linking everything to each other. Considering the number of new pages that will likely be needed to hold all my primary refs, should I maybe create a Category for "rixa Fimbriana" material? -- Marius Peregrinus 23:09, 27 August 2007 (CEST)
Absentia
I am going in for surgery in mid-September. My life for the next few weeks, as for the last few months, will consist chiefly of preparation for this event. I will be basically unavailable (for at least a few months) after the end of August.
I think there's enough now in the Fimbria article for the reader to at least have an idea what the issues were and how it could have become so divisive as time progressed. I won't be up to any more major work on it for a while. However, I am gathering the more readily-available of my sources as time permits and assembling them on a "toy Wiki" that one of our sodales, P Nonius Severus, put together last year for other purposes. Anyone who wants a sneak-peek can find my raw materials and rough drafts at Ancient Ways: Talk:Fimbria Controversies (draft) and Ancient Ways: More raw material. -- Marius Peregrinus 21:12, 25 August 2007 (CEST)
