A scriba (plural scribae) is an appointed clerk or assistant of a magistrate. A scriba is an apparitor. Scribae can be appointed by any magistrates having the ius edicendi or by anyone who has been granted this right by any law.

The main job of scribae is clerical, administrative work related to writing, creating documents, or communication, but they are not limited by this law to this kind of work.

Due to the largely online nature of the central administration of Nova Roma, scribae doing written, clerical work are the default apparitors that a magistrate usually appoints.
