A procurator is an official of high rank appointed by the provincial governor to serve as vice-governor or to administer a regio as lieutenant governor.

Since procuratores were not a traditional part of the Roman republican provincial government, Nova Roman lawyers discourage governors to appoint procuratores. Instead of this title, a quaestor, proquaestor, praefectus or legatus can be appointed.
