- prid. Kal. Ian. ‡ M. Cotta C. Petronio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXXVII a.u.c.
M. Aurelius Cotta Iovius, while praetor, enacted the leges Aureliae that reformed the status and significance of the Nova Roman legions and gladiatorial groups, and created a better system of relationship and sponsorship than what existed before. This year, M. Cotta, as consul, enacted the Senatus consultum de legionibus sustentandis which opened a new chapter in the relationship of Nova Roma and its legions. The present lex shall extend this relationship to all citizen communities of Nova Roma, and to give more weight and meaning to being a fully integrated part of our res publica.
I. Upon the recommendation of the senate made in the Senatus consultum de legionibus sustentandis, initiated by consul M. Aurelius Cotta Iovius, the Nova Roman people extends the same principle to all citizen communities of Nova Roma: the coloniae, municipia, all kinds of municipalities, sodalitates, collegia and all kind of Nova Roman internal registered societies or gladiatorial groups, and to the provinces, as well, besides the legions.
II. Only entities that are fully part of Nova Roma have this right of petitioning the Senate for financial support. This excludes categories that are labeled "allied," "socius," "amicus," "friend of Nova Roma," and similar.
III. The exact method of petitioning and criteria for granting the funds shall be the same as in the Senatus consultum de legionibus sustentandis, or anything that the senate decrees in the future.
