Edictum appointing a praefectus aerarii

Issued by governor Nic. Moravius Vado

Id. Feb. Q. Maximo M. Minucio cos. MMDCCLIII a.u.c.

Lapsed a.d. XIX Kal. Feb. Fl. Vedio (II) M. Cassio (II) cos. MMDCCLIV a.u.c.

Be it known that Publius Claudius Lucentius Severus is now the official moneybags of Provincia Britannia. Because of certain legal definitions of the title in the Constitution, I am not allowed to call Severus Quaestor unless and until the Senate appoints him formally as such (Quaestores have quaestorial authority everywhere in Nova Roma, and the title and duties of Provincial Quaestor have not been ratified). I may, however, make him a scribus with full powers of Legate, but I can't call him Quaestor. And scribus as a title doesn't do justice to the importance of the job.

The best alternative Severus and I agreed over a jug of virtual Setinian last night, is Praefectus Aerarii Britanniae ('Treasurer of Britain'). So there we are.
