P. Claudius Caecus Iunius Brutus initially known as Amulius Claudius Petrus, a former sodalis Palatinus within the public priesthood[1], became a citizen in Fl. Vedio (II) M. Cassio (II) cos. ‡ MMDCCLIV a.u.c. and is one of the patricians of Nova Roma. He has changed his name from P. Claudius Caecus to P. Iunius Brutus recently and founded another Roman organization in Cn. Lentulo Alexandro T. Domitio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXIX a.u.c. after the atrocities of the
coup d'état of Caesar and Sulla.
P. Caecus Brutus is a practicing physician and holds a medical doctorate. He is currently completing a masters degree in education. Prior to this he first obtained a bachelor of medical science with a minor in ancient history. He has continued to pursue his academic interests in both history and medicine. He has written manuscripts on the role of religion in ancient Greek and Roman medicine which have been published in the Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Sciences. His main academic focus in this area has been the cult of Asclepius and Galenic medicine as practiced during the imperial era. He has been continuously involved in academic activity related to ancient Roman history:
- Organized fundraisers outside of Nova Roma to raise funds to excavate and protect the "Villa of the Papyri" in Herculaneum. K. Buteone Po. Minucia cos. ‡ MMDCCLIX a.u.c.
- Conducted field research in Campania as a summer student at the University of Naples focusing on the cult of Asclepius and Galenic practice of Medicine in the ancient world. L. Arminio Ti. Galerio cos. ‡ MMDCCLX a.u.c.
- Completed field work in Crete and Turkey researching early public health infrastructure during the 5th and 6th centuries. Cn. Caesare C. Tullio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXV a.u.c.
As aedilis curulis in M. Octavio L. Sulla (II) cos. ‡ MMDCCLV a.u.c., he was the first magistrate of the modern era to organize formal online events to celebrate the ludi. Since this time online celebration of the ludi has become a common method of celebrating within Nova Roma.[2][3] P. Caecus was also the first webmaster for the province of Canada Citerior. He served in this capacity as scriba to Propraetor Po. Minucia Strabo.[4] During the years of K. Buteone T. Labieno cos. ‡ MMDCCLVI a.u.c. and Cn. Salvio Cn. Equitio cos. ‡ MMDCCLVII a.u.c. P. Caecus took a leave of absence from Nova Roma to focus on his studies. During this time he contributed to Nova Roma as a private citizen when possible. [5] In St. Cornelia C. Aemilio cos. ‡ MMDCCLXVII a.u.c. P. Caecus founded the Academia Minervalis. This project was set to become an online educational institute dedicated towards teaching Nova Roman citizens about Roman history and culture. This organization also contains the first academic journal within Nova Roma. [6]
