C. Petronius Dexter, the pontifex maximus of Nova Roma, the chief priest of the Roman religion, standing in front of a temple in Rome, at the Forum Romanum set of Cinecittà Studios, at the time of his visit in Rome and Latium for the Feriae Latinae.


C. Petronius, senator praetorius, is the pontifex maximus of the Nova Roma.

Biography

C. Petronius Iohannis f. Augusti n. Cla. Dexter became civis in Nova Roma the, a.d. V Kal. Dec. L. Arminio Ti. Galerio cos. MMDCCLX a.u.c.. Born in Casablanca (Morocco), kalendis Iuniis MMDCCXII a.V.c, (June 1rst 1959) lives now at Arcueil in the nearby suburb of Paris, in provincia NRGallia and works at the SNCF, the French railway company.

Petronius is an autodidact Latinist and he is a member of the Circulus Latinus Lutetiensis, a society of Latin speakers in Paris. He is the author of several original Latin novels, such as the Roman themed detective story series C. Tiburtii Dextri Memorabilia, available from here. His expertise in classical studies and in Roman religion, especially in calendrical matters, is notable in Nova Roma.

On the Kalends of October M. Moravio T. Iulio cos. MMDCCLXI a.u.c. he was created flamen Portunalis by the Collegium Pontificum, in P. Memmio K. Buteone (II) cos. MMDCCLXIII a.u.c. he was co-opted as a pontifex and in P. Ullerio C. Equitio cos. MMDCCLXIV a.u.c. he was elected as the fifth pontifex maximus of Nova Roma. As pontifex maximus, he oversaw several reforms toward the direction of greater authenticity and pious accuracy in the practices of Roman religion. His most notable act in the political life of Nova Roma was during his tribuneship in P. Memmio K. Buteone (II) cos. MMDCCLXIII a.u.c. when he was the one on the 5 tribunes of the plebs refusing to allow the appointment of a dictator.
