Provincia Lacus Magni (Nova Roma)

Provincia

| Cn. Cornelius Lentulus legatus pro praetore |

The Provincia of Lacus Magni in Nova Roma comprises the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. The name of the province "Lacus Magni" means Great Lakes, as lacus means "lake" or "pool," and magni (from magnus) means "great" or "large," often referring to the North American Great Lakes (from the perspective of Rome), and reflects the typical Roman practice of naming larger administrative territories based on their relative position to rivers, mountains etc. If you are a Nova Roman of this province, we encourage you to sign up to our provincial forum: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lacusmagni.novaroma.org AdministrationFor administrative purposes, the provincia is intended to be divided into regiones, geographically corresponding to modern USA states, if there will be sufficient civic activity within the area. Each regio will be then assigned a praefectus or legatus, who would serve as the lieutenant-governor of the regio. Currently there are no regiones established in our provincia. The governor has the power of imperium and can issue edicts (laws on the provincial level). The governor can also appoint legati, praefecti, and various apparitores, such as scribae and praecones. All of these have different titles (see the Cohors Praetoria). The provincia is not a self-governing entity, rather it is managed by the governor who acts according to the will of the senate of Nova Roma. |
