Ludi Romani (Nova Roma)
This is the Ludi Romani of Nova Roma, the Roman Games of the year 2765 AUC, commemorating the 1800th Anniversary of the Constitutio Antoniniana, the Edict of Caracalla issued in 212 AD, which declared that all free men in the Roman Empire were to be given full Roman citizenship and all free women in Empire were given the same rights as Roman women were; and also honoring the 1920th Anniversary of the destruction of the Legio XXI RAPAX, in 92 AD.
This year, Nova Roma celebrates the Ludi Romani in two live events held at the same time in two different countries of the world. In Plovdiv, Bulgaria (7th - 9th September), organized by Ti. Claudius Drusus "Germanicus" from Estonia, A. Vitellius Celsus and the Bulgarian Nova Romans, and in Szolnok, Hungary (8th September), organized by Cn. Cornelius Lentulus pontifex and the Pannonian Nova Romans. You can watch the detailed photo reports of these live Ludi Romani here:
Opening of the Ludi Novi Romani
Aedilis Curulis C. Maria Caeca Quiritibus salutem plurimam dicit.'
Salvete omnes!
During the Ludi Novi Romani, we celebrated Nova Roma, what it is, and what it could become. With the Ludi Romani, we look back to ancient Rome, and we remember the legacy she left to us. We celebrate her glory, and remind ourselves of the things that she has given to the world, and to each of us. We have chosen Rome as our cultural ancestor, and it is fitting that we honor Rome now, and consider how we can function as a Roman Republic in the modern world while being true, in spirit if nothing else, to that illustrious ancestor.
Therefore, let us celebrate, and let us offer these games to our gods, that they may find them pleasing.
The Ludi Romani are now open!
