The Provincia of America Cismississippiana in Nova Roma comprises the modern day U.S. states of Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

For administrative purposes, the provincia is intended to be divided into 'regiones', geographically corresponding to modern political districts, if there will be sufficial civic activity within the area. Each regio will be then assigned a praefectus or legatus, who would serve as the lieutenant-governor of the regio. Currently there are no regiones established in our provincia. The provincia is administered by a propraetrix (female version of the term propraetor), a governor appointed by the senate of Nova Roma, M. Hortensia Maior Fabiana Faustina, a former praetrix (fem. version of praetor). The governor has the power of imperium and can issue edicts (laws on the provincial level). The governor can also appoint legati, praefecti, and various apparitores, such as scribae and praecones. All of these have different titles (see the Cohors Praetoria). The provincia is not a self-governing entity, rather it is managed by the governor who acts according to the will of the senate of Nova Roma.

Local Communities

Start a local chapter of Nova Roma today! Citizens are encouraged to establish local communities under the guidance and direction of Nova Roma. Local groups may be formally recognized in two ways: a community of citizens covering a larger area can be made a regio by the governor, or a community centered around a city can be made a municipality of Nova Roma. Regiones are administrative units, governed according to the will of the lieutenant governor of the regio who follows instructions from the provincial governor, who, in turn, executes the orders of the senate. Municipalities are free self-governing communities of Nova Roma which govern themselves as long as they don't violate the laws of Nova Roma.

Regiones

Regiones can be subdivisions of various size in a province, in the USA section of Nova Roma they are usually state-wide communities, consisting of one or of a few USA states within the province, however a county or several counties can also be made a regio, no matter the size. The senate of Nova Roma or the governor of Provincia America Cismissippiana can decide about creating regiones, and any territory within the province can be made a regio as long as it is based on an active local community. T

Municipalities

A group of five (5) or more citizens may apply for and be granted the status of a vicus. Groups consisting of thirty-five (35) or more citizens may apply for and be granted the status of a municipium. Vici and municipia are self-governing entities, which elect their own magistrates and senate, called ordo decurionum, and issue their own edicts (edicta) and laws (leges).

For more information on forming a regio, or a vicus or municipium in your area, contact the governor of the provincia.
