An excellent way to absorb the Romanitas and education about ancient Rome that Nova Roma provides is to volunteer in our society! The best way to learn is by "doing". Nova Roma does not just "happen to you" - you need to actively participate and interact with fellow citizens. The various voluntary employment and interactive opportunities are accessible to all citizens globally and can boost your understanding of Nova Roma and ancient Roman governance and civic life.
Whether you are a new citizen looking to learn about Nova Roman society or a long-time citizen hoping to grow your status and Roman career, there is a wide variety of opportunities suitable for all citizens.
How to apply
The list below on this page displays all known advertised positions in Nova Roma. This list may not be exhaustive and opportunities may also be displayed on other pages (i.e provincial employment opportunities). Please encourage your magistrate or appointed official to post employment opportunities to this page.
Upon finding a role you are interested in, please contact the designated point-of-contact listed. Some roles may require an audio or video interview. Some roles, such as apparitores working for central Nova Roman magisterial departments, may also require you to have paid your Nova Roman taxes prior to appointment.
Tracking your employment record
All appointments (and elections) are officially recorded and posted to your Album Civium record. Search your Roman name and your civil service record and all position you have held, and currently held will be recorded on your profile.
- Note: If a position or appointment is missing from your Album Civium record, please contact the Officium Censorium with proof of your appointment (link to official notice post in the Forum Romanum).

Elected Magistrates:
- Note: These offices are only obtained through successful election in the annual Nova Roman election cycle. Watch for the call for candidates announced by a senior magistrate in the Forum Romanum from the month of September each year.
- Fasti consulares - A record of current and former consules.
- Fasti praetorii - A record of current and former praetores.
- Fasti censorii - A record of current and former censores
- Fasti aedilicii - A record of current and former aediles.
- Fasti tribunicii - A record of current and former tribuni plebis
- Fasti quaestorii - A record of current and former quaestores.
- Fasti tribunicii militum - A record of current and former tribuni militum comitiati.
- Fasti decemvirales - A record of current and former decemviri stlitibus iudicandis.
- Fasti triumvirales capitales - A record of current and former triumvir capitalis.
- Fasti triumvirales monetales - A record of current and former triumvir monetalis.
- Fasti quattuorvirales - A record of current and former quattuorviri rerum curandarum.
State Ministers, Governors and State Commissioners:
- Note: These offices are only obtained through appointment by the senate or by senior magistierial decree. Qualifying and being recognized as a candidate for these positions requires experience in service in numerous other offices in Nova Roma.
- Ordo senatorius - A record of the current serving senators of Nova Roma.
- List of praefecti - A record of all senate-appointed, provincial and military praefecti of Nova Roma.
- List of govenors - A record of all senate-appointed governors and the provinces they administer.
Civil Service / Public Service:
- Note: These appointments are advertised on this page and are obtainable by most citizens. Contact the respective magistrate of office holder to apply for the role.
- Album Decuriarum Apparitoriarum - A record of all current and former civil service (apparitor) appointments. This record also displays the annual performance evaluations.
Military Institutions:
- Note: These appointments are advertised on this page and are obtainable by most citizens. Contact the respective senior military representative (normally the head praefetus) to apply for service.
- Album vigilum - A record of current and former vigiles.
- Album praetorianorum - A record of current and former praetoriani.
- Album militum forensium rei publicae - A record of current and former milites forenses rei publicae officiales.
Government committees:
- Note: Placement on these committees requires proof of high-level academic qualifications and recognition in Nova Roma. Application to join these committees should be made to the senior responsible magistrate or the committee itself.
- Law Revision Committee of Classicists and Latinists - A record of all members of the committee.
- Censorial Board of Latin Examiners - A record of all members of the board.
Ceremonial Tribes:
- Note: Obtaining a ceremonial tribal appointment requires election by your fellow citizens in your ceremonial tribe. You must join the dedicated Curiae forum to be eligible.
- Album of the Ceremonial Tribal Officers - A record of all current elected ceremonial tribal officers.
- Album of the Lictores Curiati - A specific list of the Lictores Curiati, a type of ceremonial tribal officer with duties in the Comitia Curiata.
Religious Appointments:
- Note: These appointments require a citizen to be a real practitioner of the cultus deorum. Priesthoods can only be applied for through application to the the Collegium Pontificum.
- Album pontificum - A record of current pontifices and pontifices minores, as well as all the previous pontifices.
- Album augurum - A record of current and former augures.
- Album of flamines - A record of current flamines maiores and flamines minores.
- Album of Sacerdotes - A record of current sacerdotes (civic persists), camilli (trainee priests), and pullarii (augures assistants).
How to post a job opening
The following magistrates and staff may directly edit this page and post or remove jobs for their office, department or program (if they have the appropriate Wiki edit permissions):

For those that do not have Wiki edit permissions or are otherwise not a member of one of the above officials (e.g. provincial governor or public servant (apparitor), contact the Scriba Editor Situs Internetualis Publici with the below information:
- Job Title - Provide both the official Latin title and the English translation.
- Job Description - Provide a brief summary of the role, highlighting key duties and expected hours per week.
- Compensation - Normally Census Points but could include other forms. Consult the Lex Arria de censu civium aestimando for guidance.
- Prerequisites - Always includes the requirement to [Current tax rates|[pay taxes]] for central government positions and appointments. You may also stipulate other requirements (e.g. minim time as a citizen or previous experience).

Praetorian Guard (Praetorianus Officialis) | This is a military position. The Cohortes Praetoriae are the tools of consular, praetorian oversight of internal security and law enforcement, as well as a tool for special officers with grant of imperium. The Cohortes Praetoriae are presidential guards of the Nova Roman Republic, working directly for the implementation of the policies and visions of the consuls and praetores, the presidential magistrates of Nova Roma, and of all officers who have been granted equivalent imperium. The praetoriani shall be the personal guards of the imperium bearing officers and essentially a complementary force to their lictors, filling the same role in a large extent. Offering advocacy training programs and legislative editing services, the Collegium focuses discussions and legal tasking through the experience of past and present senior magistratus and officers like the decemviri stlitibus iudicandis. Broadly, the Collegium seeks to study the origins of ancient Roman law and share this with the wider community. | The college offers a concept known as "Merit Points" for contributions to the college.
