Classification of magistracies
The vigintisexvir editor commentariorum (editor of written news) was one of the magistracies of Nova Roma, which is now discontinued. Its functions are largely continued by the curator rei informaticae and aediles.
The editor commentariorum was responsible for the production, publication, and distribution of the official publications sponsored by the State.
The editor commentariorum was elected annually by the people in the first decade of Nova Roman history, after the lex Galeria de editore commentariorum, it became a position appointed by a vote of the senate on the nomination of a consul, serving for three years.
The editor commentariorum had the authority to appoint his own scribae.
A deputy editor commentariorum was also appointed by a vote of the senate on the nomination of a consul. The deputy served as the chief assistant to the editor commentariorum. If during the three year term a vacancy occurred, the deputy editor commentariorum had to assume the duties for remainder of that term as editor commentariorum.
