M. Cassius, pater patriae, in his toga praetexta that former consuls may wear on special holidays, talking with one of the reenactor soldiers of the Nova Roman Legio III Cyrenaica in Provincia Nova Britannia at the May Day Parade of Kennebunk, during the 20th Anniversary celebrations of Nova Roma in C. Claudio T. Domitio (II) cos. MMDCCLXXI a.u.c., the Sacred Year of Concordia

M. Cassius Iulianus, pater patriae, is one of the two leading founders of Nova Roma, a consular, and the first pontifex maximus of Nova Roma. He served two terms as consul, with the same colleague for both, and he was a senator for several years.

M. Cassius was the original author of the Declaration of Nova Roma and the Declaration of Roman Religion and the List of Roman Virtues promoted by Nova Roma, designed the official emblem of Nova Roma and he was the first producer of NR flags and the first issue of Nova Roman coinage. Cassius founded and originally he owned the official website of Nova Roma (www.novaroma.org). He also founded and owned all of the original official mailing lists of Nova Roma, and he still owns the current version of the Main List, the Religio Romana list and the Sodalitatis Virtutis list. He was the re-founder of the gens Cassia, which is a patrician gens in Nova Roma as one of the founding families.

Cassius was also the founder of the Macellum, the commercial enterprise that first funded the operation of Nova Roma in the first years before there were citizen taxes. In addition to creating and offering Nova Roman coins and flags, he also produced T-shirts, stamps, and wallet cards with the private and public virtues, which were offered both online and at provincial events.

For 5 years, M. Cassius ran a yearly public festival of Nova Roma called "Roman Market Day" in Provincia Nova Britannia, which was attended by 500 to 2,000 people depending on the year.

He was the author of one lex regarding the creation of sodalitates: the lex Cassia de creatione sodalitatum.

After announcing that he would be away from Nova Roma for two years "for a combination of personal concerns and a burgeoning business practice", M. Cassius was removed from the senate by censorial edict a.d. V Id. Oct. M. Moravio T. Iulio cos. MMDCCLXI a.u.c.. Sixteen months later, in early February P. Memmio K. Buteone (II) cos. MMDCCLXIII a.u.c. he began "Byzantium Novum", where he is a member of the leadership.
