Simple steps for voting

  1. Make sure you are familiar with our voting procedure.
  2. Carefully check the schedule below for your correct voting times for each comitia.
  3. Go to your Album Civium page. Make sure you are logged in via the box on the right of the screen.
  4. Click on "vote here...".
  5. Click on the "go vote" button.
  6. Cast your ballots.
  7. Make a note of your ballot number. You will need it if there are problems with your vote.

[edit] Calls for candidates

a.d. V Non. Oct. Consul M. Curiatius Complutensis called for candidates for magistracies for the year MMDCCLXIII [1].

All potential candidates must contact Consul M. Curiatius directly with their intention to stand for office by sending a message to (curiatius-complutensis at yahoo dot es). Include the word "Candidate" in the subject of the message, and in the message itself include your full Nova Roman name and the office for which you will campaign. Simply announcing your candidacy to one of the lists shall not be accepted.
Candidacies will be accepted until 3 November 2009 (18.00 hrs CET Rome; 12.00 hrs EST Philadelphia).

a.d. XVI Kal. Nov. Tribune Fl. Galerius Aurelianus called for candidates for Plebeian offices [2].

Those designati for Plebeian offices who are accepted by the Comitia Plebis Tributa will have their terms of office begin AUC 2762 a. d. IV Idus Dec. (10 Dec 2009). Any and all qualified Plebeian Citizens who desire to hold these offices in the coming months shall:
  1. declare their candidacy to the current Tribuni Plebis, and
  2. announce their intentions to run for office before the Comitia Plebis Tributa.
Announcements of candidacy for these offices that are made to any other Nova Roma lists are allowed but will not meet the requirements needed to be recognized as a candidate. You must post your announcement to the Comitia Plebis Tributa.
Announcements of candidacy before the Comitia Plebis Tributa and declaration of candidacy to the Tribuni Plebis must be received no later than 23.59 CET 3 Nov (before midnight at Rome being 6:00 p.m. EDT or 3:00 p.m. PDT, AUC MMDCCLXII (2009 Gregorian).

[edit] Comitia Centuriata

The Contio will begin next 9th November at 9 hour (time of Roma) until 13rd November at 18 hour (time of Roma).

Voting will begin next 15th November at 7 hour (time of Roma) until 24 November at 17 hour (time of Roma).

  • 07:00 hrs CET 15 November: Voting begins.
  • 07:00 hrs CET 17 November: Diribitores announce the results of only the Centuria Praerogativa.
  • 07:00 hrs CET 20 November: Diribitores announce the results of all First Class centuries.
  • 17:00 hrs CET 24 November: Voting ends.

  • The Comitia Populi Tributa election will take place from:

Voting will begin next 15th November at 7 hour (time of Roma) until 24 November at 17 hour (time of Roma).

Special procedures for voting in comitia centuriata.

The recently passed Lex Curiatia Iulia de ratione comitiorum centuriatorum eliminated sequential voting, but voting results will still be issued sequentially, in the order of centuria praerogativa first, then first class centuries, finally all centuries.


The offices, number of openings, and candidates are:

The consulship is the highest executive magistracy of Nova Roma. The two consules are co-presidents of the republic.

To stand for election as consul, a potential candidate is required to be at least 27 years old as of the effective date of office, must already have served at least six months as a consul, praetor, aedilis, quaestor, tribunus plebis, magister aranearius, editor commentariorum, rogator, or provincial governor and must be assiduus.

The praetores are the second highest executive magistrates and vice-presidents of the Nova Roman Republic and are considered as lower colleagues and deputies for the consules. There are two praetores in Nova Roma and their principal duty is to oversee the official fora and to administer the judicial sytem.

To stand for election as praetor, a potential candidate is required to be at least 25 years old as of the effective date of office, must already have served at least six months as a consul, praetor, aedilis, quaestor, tribunus plebis, magister aranearius, editor commentariorum, rogator, or provincial governor and must be assiduus.

Censores are very respected magistrates with the highest auctoritas to safeguard the public morality and honour but third in rank after the consules and praetores, because they do not possess imperium, and have no power to convene either the senate or an assembly of the people. Their principal duty is to maintain the lists of citizens, equestrians and senators.

To stand for election as censor, a potential candidate is required to be at least 27 years old as of the effective date of office, must already have served at least six months as a consul, praetor, aedilis, quaestor, tribunus plebis, magister aranearius, editor commentariorum, rogator, or provincial governor and must be assiduus.

The offices, number of openings, and candidates are:

[edit] Curule Aedile (2)

All aediles are responsible for the organization of the ludi (public games), public religious events and State properties maintenance. Curule aediles specifically are also resonsible for the Aedilician Fund, specially for the Magna Mater Project, and the Macellum to report changes to the equites to the censors.

To stand for election as aedilis curulis, a potential candidate is required to be at least 21 years old as of the effective date of office and assiduus, i.e. a current Nova Roman taxpayer.

There are eight quaestores elected annually to serve as aides and financial administrators to the consules, praetores, and aediles. After eight quaestores have been elected, the newly elected senior magistrates are consulted and asked which of the new quaestores they wish to have assigned to them. The new consules make the final determination of this, publishing an edict assigning quaestores to senior magistrates. Learn more ...

The two rogatores are magistrates of Nova Roma. The rogators work closely with the censors to process citizen applications, check eligibility, and ensure that voters have voter codes and are properly assigned to centuries and tribes. Learn more ...

[edit] Diribitor (4)

The four diribitors (Lat. diribitores) are magistrates of Nova Roma who are responsible for counting votes; when they have cross-checked each other, they turn their tallies over to the custodes. Because of their involvement in elections, diribitors cannot run for any office for which they would be counting the votes. In antiquity the diribitors were typically young men who had just completed their military service. The office of diribitor is a traditional first step toward the cursus honorum. Learn more ...

The two custodes take the raw vote tallies compiled by the diribitors and convert them to a tally of tribes and centuries which they then certify to the convening magistrates of elections. The Latin word "custos" means "guard" or "watcher": in antiquity it was typical for very senior people such as senators and consulars to serve as custodes. Because of their involvement in the elections, custodes can not run for any office for which they would be certifying the election results. Learn more ...

Candidates for aedilis plebis must be citizens in good standing for at least six full months before taking office. They must be of the plebeian order, assidui, and at least 21 years of age by the date of taking office. Learn more ...

The Constitution of Nova Roma provides that there shall be five tribuni plebis (Tribunes of the Plebs), who shall be elected by the comitia plebis tributa, and who shall all be of the plebeian order.

Candidates for tribunus plebis must be citizens in good standing, for at least six full months before taking office, of the plebeian order, assidui, and at least 25 years of age by the date of taking office.
