The Senate of Nova Roma is a council where a select few citizens, mostly former or current magistrates, can discuss the state of the Republic and issue Senatus consulta as directives. They can also issue the Senatus consultum ultimum. These are virtually all decisive in nature, sometimes in regards to appointments. It is said by Polybian theorists to represent the element of oligarchy in the Roman political equilibrium.

ALBUM SENATORUM

Proto-Final-Censores-logo.PNG The Album Senatorum is maintained under authority of the Censores. Make no unauthorized changes .

Overview

Current consuls, praetors, censors and appointed senators are members of the Nova Roman Senate. Senators are appointed by the censors. The list of senators is regularly revised by the censors, but senators removed either by nota or under the terms of the lex Popillia senatoria are removed from the list until the nota is removed and they are returned to the Senate by the Censors as a senator.

Present holders of higher magistracies who are not senators are entitled to attend and post during meetings of the Senate (the ius sententiae) by virtue of their office. Such non-senator holders of these offices may not vote in the Senate. This is the grandfathered right of ius sententiae dicendae.

Tribunes of the plebs are entitled to attend the sessions of the Senate but not vote, unless they are also a senator.

The decisions appointing new senators or removing existing senators

Such appointments or removals are made by both censors after confirmation by vote of the Senate on any of their proposed changes.

The current album senatorum

Due to an internal conflict the corporate Board of Directors of Nova Roma, Inc. became separated from the senate of Nova Roma. On this page, you can read the list of the corporate Board of Director members. However, since the previous management of Nova Roma, Inc. has failed to register the founding documents of Nova Roma at the authorities of the State of Maine (where Nova Roma is incorporated), none of the Directors listed above are legally the Directors of Nova Roma, Inc.. The senators of the republic can be seen listed here: http://nova-roma.org/senate/

ACTING MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF NOVA ROMA, INC.

These are the acting members of the Nova Roma, Inc. Board of Directors. They are not legally Directors, and they are not legally members of the Board od Directors, because the previous management of Nova Roma, Inc. has failed to register the founding documents of Nova Roma at the authorities of the State of Maine (where Nova Roma is incorporated), and consequently Nova Roma, Inc. doesn't have any valid and legal officers as a corporation at the moment. However, we recognize the following members of the corporation as acting members of the Board of Directors for the duration of the transitional period, because they were for a long time believed to be legally directors. Nova Roma, Inc. will have to elect and constitute a proper Board of Directors and to rectify this situation within a couple of months. These acting members of the BoD are listed in order of senatorial rank :

Current flamen Dialis, dictator, censors, consuls, and praetors who are not Senators, as listed in the album senatorium, shall be entitled to attend meetings of the senate and to vote therein. Any dictatorius, censorius, consularis, or praetorius who is not a Senator, as listed in the album senatorium, shall be entitled to attend meetings of the senate and to vote therein, except one who has been deliberately passed over for sublection.
